Devotional by Janet Cothrell:
The Calling
“Now ADONAI called to Moses and spoke to him out of the Tent of Meeting, saying: ‘Speak to Bnei-Yisrael, and tell them: When anyone of you brings an offering to ADONAI, you may present your offering of livestock, from the herd or from the flock.’” Leviticus 1:1-2 (TLV)

The name of this portion (and of the book we are beginning) is translated as, “And He Called.” This is an appropriate name for this book! Israel had a unique calling to make the Tabernacle and God the center of their life. They were to be a real theocracy.

People stumble over this book all the time. Of all the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, this book is one that might be skimmed through, skipped, or cause the reader to quit reading the Bible altogether!

Even though a perceived lack of application can cause some to lose interest in this book, the opposite is true. Leviticus has a great wealth of context and insight into God’s nature and character; these alone are good reasons to “stay the course” with this important part of the Torah!

It’s my hope that those who read these devotionals will receive insight that makes Leviticus more relevant to them and adds ways to apply scripture to their own lives. Please come with us as we investigate this book.

Father,
I know that all Your Word is good, and I desire to know it more. Open my eyes to Your wisdom as I seek to know You and serve You better.
In Yeshua’s name, amen.
