Pause

Aug 19, 2017    Matt Rosenberg

The principle of rest goes back to God creating the heavens and the earth. In fact, after He is completes His creation the first thing He does is rest. Later, in the Torah, comes the commandment to imitate God in rest by observing Shabbat, literally a day of rest. When the commandant for Shabbat occurs again in the Torah it is connected with the idea that the Jewish people were slaves in Egypt and when God set us free He gave us the opportunity to rest, or observe Shabbat. We all need rest, a time to pause and reset from last week into the next week. You may think you don't need rest but observing Shabbat is actually a command from God to pause as people who imitate God and are free to rest!
